Wooden worktops can usually be brought back well if the timber itself is still sound.


We sand back the existing finish, deal with staining and surface marks as far as possible, then re-oil the worktop to bring the colour and finish back.


A lot of the work we see is on oak kitchen worktops that have gone dark around sinks, become patchy in heavily used areas, or have simply had more and more oil added over the years without ever being properly sanded back.


Wooden Worktop Sanding and Re-Oiling


The amount of sanding needed depends on the condition of the worktop.

Some only need the old finish removing and the surface evening out. Others need more work around sinks, taps and preparat


ion areas where water marking or wear has gone further into the timber.

We sand the worktop progressively, including edges and awkward areas where needed, rather than just running over the surface with one abrasive.

Once the timber has been properly prepared, it is re-oiled to bring back the natural colour and give the worktop a more even finish.

Oak and Solid Wood Worktops


Oak is one of the most common worktops we are likely to deal with, but the same process can also be used on other solid timber worktops including beech, walnut, iroko and similar hardwoods.

This service is for solid timber worktops rather than laminate or thin veneer surfaces.


Can Every Mark Be Removed?


Not always.

Most surface wear and marking can be improved significantly, but staining that has travelled deeply into the timber may not disappear completely.

We will always be realistic about that before starting.
